The first edition of Floriade took place on 1988, when Peter Sutton and his collegue, the paesaggistic designer Chris De Bruine , set up the idea of creating a floral event to celebrate the bicentennial of Australia and the 75th " Birthday "of Canberra.
Since the very first edition, the local community has embraced the event that has come up with the show of exotic and bulbous bulbs, which in the beautiful spring weather of Canberra have found the ideal place to grow and flourish to the fullest. For this reason it was decided to create an annual event also made up of days filled with music, cultural events, workshops, shows and events that every year brings more than 480,000 visitors.
The Floriade edition of 2017 will last exactly 30 days, beginning on September 16 and scheduled for October 15.
The intense and varied program provides daily activities and events that will take place over the weeks.
The ACT Heart Foundation, the Floriade charity, organizes a morning walk from the Monday to Saturday at 8am each morning,
before the opening. And of the arrival of the crowd.
- The Floriade Markets are open every day, including the weekend, and are the right occasion to look for an object or a right opportunity to take home.
- The panorama wheel and other amusements are not just a great opportunity to admire one million tulips from above, but also a chance for the little ones to have fun while their parents visit the park.
- The rich music program will be filled by local groups and local communities with dancing, drums, bands and more!
