Today, he also opens his private Windcliff garden in Indianola, a stone's throw from downtown Seattle. Because of its role in advancing the knowledge of plants and introducing new species, Hinkley has received numerous awards, including in 2007 the Veitch Memorial Medal of the English Royal Horticultural Society with the motivation of the "extraordinary contribution to the progress of science and horticultural practice ".
